  • Best Kyrie Irving Rookie Card: 2012 Panini Prizm RC #201

Kyrie Irving is already an established NBA veteran. His amazing ball wizardry and creativity make him one of the best point guards in the NBA. Expect him to earn many All-Star nods year in and year out.

One of the biggest drawbacks is his health – Irving has yet to play an entire 82-game season in his NBA career. This could hinder his future entry into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

How Controversy Affects the Values

Unfortunately, when talking about Kyrie Irving, it is impossible not to discuss his off-court antics. While we do not want to come down too harsh on Kyrie, there is no denying that his status as a polarizing figure affects the stock of his rookie cards. Irving has been all over the news for the past few years. He stirred controversy because of his opinions on Flat Earth Theory in 2018. Before that, Irving had not made any controversial statements, but that was the tip of the iceberg.

Irving famously refused to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and as a result, he could not play home games for most of the 2021-22 NBA season. Playing for the Brooklyn Nets, city laws did not allow him to compete in home games. This after forcing his way out of Cleveland and Boston, has led to many fans questioning his commitment to basketball.

It is unclear how these comments will affect the stock of Kyrie Irving rookie cards. They have certainly made him a more well-known player, and that could be a good thing. However, some investors might not be interested in his cards simply because they do not want to associate themselves with him as a player.
