Jesus Luzardo (9/30/1997) was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 3rd round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft from Stoneman-Douglas High School. He made his MLB debut on 9/11/2019 against the Houston Astros pitching 3 innings with 2 K’s and letting up 1 run over 3 innings of work.
Jesus stands 6 ft tall and uses a waist-high leg kick and will vary the duration of the leg kick at times to try and throw off the hitter’s timing. We feel Luzardo is going to take the next step in 2022 and is ready for the big time.
Luzardo has four quality pitches and can ratchet his fastball up to 100 mph when needed. If you take away his two worse starts in 2020 his ERA would have been a dazzling 2.93.
Sleeper Investment: Tyler Glasnow Rookie Cards
Despite getting drafted by Washington, Luzardo never played a game for the Nationals. Instead, he was traded along with Sheldon Neuse and Blake Treinen to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson.
He spent a few years in Oakland before getting shipped off to Miami. We expect his career to really take off with the Marlins.
Jesus Luzardo might not be the first MLB player you think to invest in when it comes to rookie cards. However, his cards are still relatively cheap, and you have the opportunity to scoop them up before he has a big breakout season.

2016 Jesus Luzardo Bowman Draft RC #JLU
The Luzardo Bowman Draft Rookie Card comes in a variety of parallels and is the card you want if you believe Jesus Luzardo has the stuff to be a future all-star.
Numbered #JLU the card shows Luzardo firing the ball towards the plate which most likely resulted in a major whiff by the batter. We love this card and have bought 3 of them to date.
His name is centered at the bottom next to the Washington Nationals logo. The Bowman Chrome logo sits in the upper right corner while the Bowman 1st graphic sits in the upper left.

2020 Jesus Luzardo Topps Heritage Real One RC #ROA-JL
Looking to catch a Jesus Luzardo autograph rookie card without busting the bank? Consider the 2020 Topps Heritage Auto RC as it’s still affordable (for most) even at high grades.
Numbered #ROAJL the card shows Jesus casually tossing the ball in what appears to be a staged photo. We usually are not huge fans of staged cards but the autograph for such a low price makes up for the lame photo.

2/2021 UPDATE: Were adding a 4th card to the list
The 2020 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto Jesus Luzardo RC is a top option that can compete with his 2016 Bowman RC for the best return on investment. Numbered #CRAJL the card shows Jesus about to fire a laser down the middle of the plate for what we can only assume a swing and miss.
His name and Oakland A’s logo sit towards the bottom left corner while the Bowman RC logo sits in the top left. If you are looking for a super high-end Jesus Luzardo rookie card go with the Gold, Orange, or Red refractor auto and pray he is a CY Young contender in the AL in 2021.

Luzardo Rookie Card: Buyers Rating and Investment Outlook
We feel Jesus Luzardo has the stuff to be one of the better pitchers in baseball and maybe the best at some point. A’s manager Bob Melvin once said “I think he takes an added step forward this year. I believe he’ll be an All-Star here at some point.” and we agree 100%.
However, he will not reach his potential with the A’s because he was traded to the Miami Marlins. The trade took place on July 28th, 2021, and was in exchange for Starling Marte and cash considerations.
He is off to a strong start in 2022, recording 12 strikeouts with the second-fewest pitches in a game in MLB history early in the season.
While he will not be setting records every game, we can expect him to put up a great performance in the 2022 season. If that comes to pass, his cards should spike in value.
